Control system design for marine winch and deployment equipment used in oceanographic and subsea operations. Delivering reliable, precise automation for some of the most demanding environments on Earth.
The Challenge
Winch control systems for subsea deployment need to handle complex motion control requirements including towing operations and heave compensation. Equipment must operate reliably in harsh marine conditions — salt spray, vibration, extreme temperatures — where failure is not an option. Precise cable management and tension control are critical to protecting both expensive subsea equipment and personnel on deck.
My Approach
I integrated ABB ACS880 drives with SmartWinch technology to deliver precise, responsive winch control. The control logic was designed for accurate cable management, real-time tension monitoring, and heave compensation to maintain stable operations even in rough seas. A dedicated safety system was integrated to protect personnel during deployment and recovery operations.
